An alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr Prosper Tachie, Esq., has been elected National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), marking a new chapter in the leadership of Ghana’s largest and oldest teachers’ union.
Mr Tachie’s election follows a closely contested national delegates’ congress, where members endorsed his vision of strengthened advocacy, strategic negotiations and professional leadership for teachers nationwide.
A lawyer and educationist, Mr Tachie brings to the role a multidisciplinary academic background, with several of his qualifications obtained at KNUST. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Political Science. He is also a Certified Legal Practitioner, having trained at the Ghana School of Law.
His academic journey further includes a Master of Arts in Administration in Higher Education from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and a Bachelor of Education in Social Studies from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He has also undertaken extensive professional training in French language studies in Ghana, Benin and France.
Colleagues within GNAT have described Mr Tachie’s election as timely, noting that his combined expertise in law, education administration and language studies positions him to lead negotiations and policy engagements at a critical moment for the teaching profession.
His ascent to national leadership adds to KNUST’s growing footprint in public service, governance and professional leadership across Ghana. The University continues to produce graduates who combine academic depth with practical skills, contributing to national development across diverse sectors.
Mr Tachie is expected to officially assume office in the coming weeks, with stakeholders anticipating renewed momentum in teacher welfare advocacy, professional development and constructive engagement with education sector partners.
